Since viewing the Sphere in Las Vegas, I wondered why there weren't more architextural animation forms out there. Even a desktop programmable orb or cube could be a great way to experiment with animation concepts or support other artists' work. But what about actual buildings?
This is the Metronome in Union Square, NY. I somehow forgot about this one. It was originally a clock built for the millennium, then became a countdown for extinction due to global warming. The park across the street is a popular hang out with a subway that threads 8 lines. As a student, I used to walk by Metronome on my way to art education classes. It wasn't exactly a pleasant thought to reflect upon.
Now that a giant orb in the desert has given light, what possibilities can joyful or more contemplative designs illustrate to city dwellers instead of doom?
Times Square has Midnight Moment, a long running digital art program on the electronic billboards nightly for an artist for a month. But what if there were more relaxed public spaces where curatorial teams could collaborate every season (winter, spring, summer, & autumn) to showcase emerging and established digital artists?
